zondag 29 september 2013

Shoppen!!! Century 21 is ‘the store to be’, designerlabels met heel veel korting.

Aankomst in New York!

Holiday Inn on 44 west, 57th Street.

Bye bye South-Africa!

It is almost the end of the week, which means the last days in South Africa. Three shows to go and two days left before our return. Friday morning we skipped breakfast and decided to hit town in the afternoon. We (Vivian, Elena, Ruben and Anouk) went to meet a friend of Vivian’s family. She took us for a lunch at one of the most prestigious hotels of Cape Town, The Mount Nelson. We had a wonderful lunch there and we met her young daughter who is about to take her first steps at the Cape Town Ballet School. For her it was a big pleasure to meet the professional dancers of Introdans, and it was a pleasure for us too.
After this lunch we had a quick visit at the Green Market to buy some presents and souvenirs for our friends and family. Days are passing by very quickly in Cape Town and there we were again, excited to rock the stage of the Baxter Theatre. The show went very well and every time it is very satisfying to give a piece of ourselves through our art to the South African audience, that appreciates it a lot.
Of course after such an energetic program we were all super hungry! So we went to our favorite restaurant close by the hotel and the man at the door said, as usual,  ‘How was the show tonight?’. Time to rest now and prepare ourselves for the last day!
Saturday, everyone is excited. The last two shows today! The matinee was a huge success, a lot of students came to watch us. It seems they liked us a lot, when we went out for a lunch they were waiting for us and screaming “You are fantastic!”
We went back to the theatre, to prepare ourselves for the last one!! Suddenly during the show Alberto felt very sick and Iris took a decision to put Giuseppe and Ruben in his place for Sinfonia India. They did a great job in such a stressful situation and we were all very proud of them!
The shows are done, now time to have some fun, before being trapped in a plane for many hours. We went to Mama Africa, a great restaurant with a live African band. When we heard the life band playing drums and singing all dancers could not resist to go and dance at the African rhythm. We had a lot of fun and we were happy, the South African tour was an amazing experience.
Suitcases are packed! Bye bye Cape Town! We all hope we will come back to this amazing place on the world.

We started sunny Wednesday off by a few of us waking up early to see the whales and some going to pet cheetahs while we went with our "tour guide" Léa to rent a car and see the sites for ourselves. We eagerly jumped into the car (on the other side of the road) and made our way to the green market, a market downtown Cape Town, full of African paintings, sculptures,  jewellery and much more. We filled our bags with many things to fill our homes and gifts for our friends and family. We drove past many different brightly coloured houses named  Bo-kaap situated on the slopes of signal hill. Afterwards we drove past the world famous football stadium from the FIFA World Cup in 2008 and after onto sea point where we sat and ate a quick lunch while admiring the scenery, sun and breath taking views. We hurried back to the hotel to pack our bags and headed to the theatre for our second show in Cape Town. Mathieu was back and ready to go so we were very excited to show the public a full show. The show went well and the audience was supportive. Everyone ran quickly away to bed to rest for an exciting day to follow.

Thursday morning we left the hotel around 8am to explore Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope as well as, some hilarious penguins, along with Chapman's Peak and Hout Bay. Others went to Robben Island or Table Mountain, there is so much to do! We started off in Boulders Bay to see the penguins. We had a good laugh watching them run around and swim. Then we began our trip to the point where we took a cable car up to see the light house and walk to impressive views. Standing up so high and seeing the calm blue surround you was amazing. We then continued on to the Cape of Good Hope, the most south west point of Africa. We spotted a few geckos, rock dassies, many birds, an ostrich and we would like to believe a whale.
We took the scenic route back to the hotel which led us to Chapman's Peak, a road in a massive mountain that led us to Hout Bay, a beautiful bay with mountains, blue water and perfect sand.

Thursdays performance was really special because we had friends that came to watch as well as a busy audience. We are now half way done our shows in Cape Town three more to go and we are all very excited. Hopefully see you soon.

Its hard to believe that we are already over half of our wonderful tour in South Africa. It has been our 5th day in Cape Town and so far it’s been an amazing experience. Ex Introdans dancer Léa Jauréguy has been living in Cape Town for 2,5 years and we are fortunate enough to have her as our tour guide. On Monday she brought us to the famous vineyards, from Franschhoek all the way down to Stellenbosch, to have some wine-tasting; of course with the most stunning views. At night we got invited to a friend’s house to have a braai, which is a typical South African barbeque. After an amazing meal we all went to bed to get ready for our first show in Cape Town.
When we arrived at the theatre the next day, to do our first run through of the programme, we saw that Mathieu wasn’t doing well and he actually had severe food poisoning. It was decided that he wasn’t able to do the show so he went to the hotel to get some rest. Because we missed one dancer we had to rearrange some parts of the show but even though it was quite last minute the show went well and the reactions of the public were positive.
After the show we got invited for a drink in the foyer of the theatre with some of the audience. We got a chance to meet dancers of Cape Town City Ballet, and it was nice to see their point of view on our show. After this we all went to hotel and had our 'after show get together' with all the dancers and our ballet mistress. Done evaluating the show we all went to our beds to get some rest for the second show on Wednesday.

Off to Cape Town

10:00 am: We checked out of Durban, today it looks particularly hot in the city. We rather be prepared for Cape Town, it’s almost 10 degrees lower down there but we feel excited, it’s the capital city so it must be fun.
2:15 pmLanded in ‘the mother city of Africa’, that is how some people call Cape Town. We had the bird view over the city, the Table Mountain and the Ocean, in one hour we`ll be checking in at the cute guest house Little Scotia, located few meters from the Baxter Theatre, were we perform. The independent suites turn up to be very cosy though a bit cold inside, it feels like honeymoon rooms.
4:00 pmGiuseppe and Anouk had an accident with the shower and almost made a pool of Vivian and Elena`s room.
8:00 pm: We enjoy a fantastic dinner arranged by Lea, who used to dance with Introdans before and now lives here. The food is terrific and tastes even better with local wine.
11:00 pm:
Cocktail time at Caprice, a terrace at Camps Bay with a very good reputation, a lot of stars make appearance here, definitely a glamorous place for watching people and being watched. Not bad for our first hours in town.

Safari in beautiful South-Africa

5:45 am: We all meet at the hotel door to go on safari, of course with an epic effort and some of the dancers have been literally dragged to the car. But the tour is worth it, we are in Africa and we all want to experience that fully. So there we are, hoping that our guide Zamine, a sweet and big Zulu man, stops talking to take advantage and catch up some sleep in the three hours that we have until we arrive at Hululuwe`s park.

10:00 am: We arrived at the centre of the natural park, Hilltop, the starting point of the safari. Even though we have already seen some wildlife, a group of at least hundred buffalos was cutting the road inside the park. We waited till they passed and stared at them for a long time. Waking up the last sleeping beauties on the bus, now, everybody is ready to jump on the opened jeeps and go find some animals.

1:00 pm: The jeeps are back on Hilltop, we go out of the cars still fascinated about the tour. We thank Wilkom, an experienced ranger who took us real close by the animals. We managed to see three of the big 5, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant, but the leopard and the lion didn`t want to make their appearance for us. We also saw lots of impalas, zebras, monkeys, giraffes. Satisfied we headed back to take a quick bite when we assisted to a professional robbery performed by a naughty monkey that stole bread from an old woman, who was quietly eating at the terrace. We all exploded into hysterics.

4:00 pm: After a crazy ride, we proceeded the second part of the journey across the dangerous waters of Isimangaliso, full of crocodiles hippopotamus and snakes. The wetlands also offer a romantic boat cruise in the late hours of the evening, we saw the animals and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. If we weren't already, we finally fell in love with the beauty of this country.

10:00 pm: Back in the hotel we had dinner at the restaurant and shared our impressions of the day, some of the dancers, found the strength to go out with Garreth and a group of boys which we had met the night before. The rest of us went to our rooms, time for a hot shower and an earned rest.

The first day at Durban

10:00 am: The lobby of the Bel Air Hotel starts to get agitated; clearly the dancers are making good use of the continental breakfast. Scrambled eggs, toasts, coffee and several sweets are devoured while we plan the activities for the day; there`s too much to see but tight schedules to be followed.
11:30 am
:
At last we all agree, final destination: Victoria Market. Shopping has become one of our musts on tour, unfortunately we didn`t expect the inconvenience of taking a taxi in Durban, you may arrive faster to the locations riding on a turtles back.
3:00 pm: By this time we are all lost in the city, carrying bags and hungry because we decided to go back to the hotel by feet. Although it is the beginning of spring in Africa, Durban is really hot. No mercy for the poor dancers who will be picked up at the hotel within one hour.
7:30 pm: The show is about to start, we did manage to get back in time and get some fast food on our way. Digest the corrections from the first show and say ‘hi’ to the monkeys that live in the trees nearby and whom we`ve been secretly feeding in our spare hours at the theatre. There`s more energy in the air today and we feel more confident with the stage, so.. raise the curtain!!
00:00 am
:
The performance went super, and the audience was delighted. To celebrate, David, a man of the musical theatre world in South Africa has invited us to dinner at club 199. Some new fans and friends that we made after the show and people from the festival are joining us tonight, after that, open bar… and the following is all very loud, fun and privacy of the crew; sorry ;).

Aankomst Durban
